A good cleaning schedule splits the work by how often it needs doing. These are the usual rhythms for a shared house.
Every day
The small jobs that stop mess building up: washing up or loading the dishwasher, wiping the kitchen counters, and tidying cups and plates out of the living room. Ten minutes a day saves an hour at the weekend.
Every week
The proper clean of each room: the toilet, shower and bathroom floor, the cooker top, sink and kitchen floor, hoovering and dusting, and the bins out on bin day. Spreading these across the week means nobody loses their whole Sunday.
Every month
The jobs everyone forgets: the oven, inside the fridge, the washing machine filter, the bath mat and shower curtain, and under the sofa cushions.
Every three months
The deep clean: defrosting the freezer, descaling the shower head, the extractor fan, and washing the cushion covers.
